Among the many varieties, Hydrangea macrophylla—often called “mophead” or “bigleaf hydrangea”—is one of the most popular. With its large, rounded flower heads and long-lasting blooms, it creates a striking display from early summer through autumn. These hydrangeas thrive in garden beds, borders, and containers, and are also prized as cut flowers for indoor arrangements.

What makes them so unique is how differently they are grown from the common practices.
Typically, most nurserymen would grow an advanced tree for its whole life in a pot in close proximity to many other advanced trees also being grown in pots. Because these trees are grown closely together, you’ll find that they tend to be skinny and not have much branching or thickness in the trunk.
But not with our elite grade trees.
These trees have been grown slowly and carefully in the field for several years which has allowed them to develop nice thick trunks with plenty of branches tos them.
Now that it’s hit winter these elite grade trees are getting dug up and being put in a container with lots of space around them and fed under a drip irrigation. This process gets them ready for selling.
So if you’re landscaping your home and looking to put in a main feature tree, or several feature trees, then these elite grade trees are perfect for you.
These thick trunked, nicely branched and bushy trees are going to make an instant feature with real wow factor. There’s no need to wait for them to develop enough to flower or give you gorgeous autumn colour – these trees will immediately give you everything they have to offer.
All that space and sunshine created truly beautiful specimens, and we’re so excited to share them with you.

Recently, our chief in charge and horticultural expert, Chris, took a trip to the incredible Cactus Country, and we just had to share his experience with you! Hear all about it from Chris:“Wandering in a sandy desert, surrounded by towering cacti, as well as beautiful and interesting desert plants, I remembered my childhood dreams of cactus. When I was 7 years old, I started my own cactus & succulent garden. While walking around, I was looking at this amazing collection through the eyes of a child who was in love with cacti and desert landscapes. I was mightily impressed by the age of the older cacti in the collection. My son and I spent over an hour and a half walking among them marvelling at their age and beauty.We went to the retail pot and cactus display, then lunch in the restaurant, which was wonderful. We washed it down with cactus juice cocktails.We drove 50 minutes to get there and it was absolutely worth it. Entry for adults is $25 per head. Children are free. If you don’t already love cacti, wandering in the wonderful desert garden of Cactus Country will have you loving cactus.”– Chris We love seeing our team so inspired by the world of plants – and Chris’ love for cacti runs deep. If you’re ever looking for a day trip to reconnect with the beauty of desert flora, Cactus Country is well worth the visit!
Hello Hello Plants is Melbourne’s busiest plant sales outlet with the biggest range of plants on sale of any nursery outlet. We have a team of 30 staff, very diverse in terms of age, skills and nationality at heart. It is a family business with a friendly, family-oriented atmosphere. In the current economic conditions where some nurseries are cutting staff and reducing production, we are expanding AND we are looking for truck drivers!
We are looking for owner drivers to deliver all around Victoria. If you are a very professional, polite, well-presented driver and you want your own business and tax advantages of owning your own business, then this may be for you.
Secure contract and training available. Plant or landscaping knowledge would be an advantage, but not essential.
Behind every single plant is a unique story; one of different applications and strengths, of care and maintenance, of beauty and design. At Hello Hello Plants we strive to make gardening and horticulture accessible to everyone. An essential part of this is being able to bring these plants to our customers throughout Melbourne and regional Victoria and that’s where you come in, our future flag of owner drivers delivering our beautiful products to our customers.
We are now stocking a range of high quality decorative plant pots for both indoor and outdoor use. You can browse and buy the full range online, and we also have a select range available at our Campbellfield store.
These pots are the perfect finishing touch for a garden project. Either drop a plant with it’s plastic pot and all inside for an instant transformation, or plant directly into the pot to maximise the space your plant’s roots will have access to.
These high quality pots are made of contemporary composite that is tough yet light and mimics various stone finishes without being unmanageably heavy. Perfect for modern style gardens, balconies, courtyards, terraces and indoors. They look great as a feature pot on their own, or clustered in a set of different sizes.
With a more traditional handmade finish, earthenware pots each have their own individual look due to natural variation achieved during the manufacturing process. These pots are rustic pieces with their own unique beauty.
Terracotta pots are not chosen just for looks. This traditional style pot is also used because it has the natural ability to allow moisture to gradually escape from the soil, helping to prevent overwatering. Since wet feet is the number one cause of plant death, this is a handy feature. European engineering ensures that our range of terracotta pots are the best available, with the perfect porosity for the growth of your plants.
Glazed pots are coated and fired with a special decorative finish. Chose from solid colours or patterned styles that really pop and add some vibrancy to your garden or indoor decor.
Our day just got brighter! Josh & Matt, a dynamic interior design duo have taken social media by storm with their eclectic choice of quirky furnishings and splashes of vivid colour – and now they want to take it into their new garden!
Having recently outfitted their new home, they have chosen our nursery and our massive range of plants to add a personal touch to their new garden.
It obviously wouldn’t be Josh & Matt without some wild shapes and colours!
They have chosen a mixture of natives and cottage plants, aiming to attract bees and butterflies to their garden as well as create contrast between texture, colour and form.
Here they’ve selected some truly quirky plants to match their interior design style.
Vibrant colours of gold, blue, purple, red and orange weave throughout their plant selection in both flower and foliage. Eucalyptus ‘Baby Blue’ is a wonderful example of vibrant colour, unique shape and a true reflection of Matt & Josh style. Groundcovers like the Scleranthus ‘Lime Lava’ and Soleirolia ‘Golden Baby’s Tears’ are both vivid and shapely, not to mention the flowers of the Kniphofia, Kangaroo Paw and Fuchsia being rich in contrasting colour and shape. And to top it all off, Betula ‘Silver Birch’ with its magnificent white trunk, Standard Acacia ‘Fettuccini’ with its slender wavy foliage, and a ‘Curly Shirly’ Robinia, a truly twisted and sculptural feature plant.
Their garden will undoubtedly reflect their style.
We’re excited to see the results!
Check out a full list of their plant selection below!
You could have your very own garden just like this one!

We have purple & red feature trees and hedging, vibrant oranges and pinks in both flowers and foliage not to mention multi-tonal colours all on the same plant! Whatever your colour scheme, we’re sure to find something to match it.
Here we have some truly colourful specimens Chris has selected for Simon & Renee’s garden design. Not only will it brighten their blank slate garden but their selection will match their busy lifestyle as shift workers, meaning they will have a beautiful garden with very little maintenance.
Hello Hello helps out Rachel and Ryan on house 2 on The Block. The company that established the vineyard on lot 2 ordered some colourful perennials to interplant with the grape vines. Chris decided to deliver them himself so he could have a sneak preview of The Block.
As Chris unloaded he met up with the landscaper Matt from Harvey Landscape and Design who were doing the gardens in lot 2. Matt explained they had massive areas of gardens to fill on a very tight budget. Chris explained that he had lots of Bulk Plant Dealsand oversized, cheap plants.
Matt was so excited, he followed Chris back to his 3 acre nursery in Campbellfield, 45 mins from Gibson, where he and Chris went through the nursery, selecting the biggest and best value for money plans.
The biggest landscape the @theblock has ever seen! Harvey Landscape & Design
6am the next morning, Chris was onsite with a big truckload of economy priced advanced plants. Later that same week, Hello Hello sent another van-load of plants that Matt had selected for planting in the area between the courtyard and the house.
House 2 has the best planted garden with the least spent on plants thanks to Hello Hello and we wish Rachel and Ryan all the best in the competition!
So no matter how big or small your project is, Hello Hello is set up to help.
World Environment Day is celebrated worldwide on June 5. A platform for action, World Environment Day is for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment.
Origins of the World Environment Day
It’s the 48th World Environment Day this year, and the first one took place in Stockholm, Sweden in 1972. Back then, it was the first major conference of it’s kind. The aim was to focus on the development of environmental politics, and environmental issues, and to encourage worldwide awareness and action for the protection of the environment. The responsibility for the primary celebrations rotates to a different country each year.
“With 1 million species facing extinction, there has never been a moreimportant time to focus on biodiversity.”
Threats to Biodiversity
Australia has such diverse unique flora and fauna!
‘Many of the Earth’s ecosystems are nearing critical tipping points of depletion or irreversible change, pushed by high population growth and economic development. By 2050, if current consumption and production patterns remain the same and with a rising population expected to reach 9.6 billion, we will need three planets to sustain our ways of living and consumption.’
Human activities have significantly disturbed three-quarters of the world’s land surface. Two-thirds of ocean areas are also impacted by human activity, through overfishing, industrial pollution and oil spills, and garbage accumulation. Wildlife species are disappearing tens to hundreds of times faster now than in the past 10 million years. By 2030, the world may have lost one out of every four known species. Scientists have declared this the sixth mass extinction event in world history. At current rates of species extinction, the sixth event is on track to be more severe than the one that wiped out the dinosaurs.
Here are the 6 main threats to Biodiversity:
Climate Change
An increase in the temperature of the atmosphere has major effects on the environment such as the seasons, rising sea levels, glacial retreats, floods, and as we have seen here in Australia, more bush fires and droughts.
Habitat Loss and Degradation
Habitat loss is sometimes caused by natural events like geological calamities but more commonly by human activities such as deforestation, diverting rivers, mining, fracking, and many other destructive behaviors.
Pollution
Be it in water, air, or land pollution, all forms of pollution are a threat to all life forms on Earth. Recently with the Covid 19 pandemic, we have witnessed a decrease in pollution due to a slowing down in human activities, and that was refreshing, but on the other hand, we saw many plastic gloves and face masks washed up in the ocean and killing wildlife.
Invasive Species
An exotic or unnatural species can be any kind of organism that has been introduced to a foreign habitat. This introduction can cause major threats to the native species. For example, Cats are a major threat to our native bird population here in Australia.
Over Exploitation
This refers to the act of over-harvesting species and natural resources at rates faster than they can actually sustain themselves in the wild.
Other Threats
There are many other threats such as the spreading of diseases from farmed animals to wild animals. The impact of roads and highways reduce the habitat area of many species. Noise and perturbations to the environment such as sonar use in the sea that disrupts cetacean species’ communications and many more.
From Bushfires to Deforestation, what is the future of the Koala bear?
Australia’s Biodiversity loss
Since the arrival of Europeans in Australia, just over 200 years ago, there has been an extraordinary increase in the rate of environmental change and in the loss of biodiversity in our ecosystems. One of the main threats to Australia’s biodiversity is habitat loss, and land clearing is happening at a staggering rate. Projections suggest that 3m hectares of untouched forest will have been bulldozed in eastern Australia by 2030, thanks to the thriving livestock industry and governments that refuse to step in.
Some of these ecosystems lost include:
75% of rainforests and nearly 50% of all forests;
over 60% of coastal wetlands in southern and eastern Australia;
nearly 90% of temperate woodlands and mallee;
more than 99% of south-eastern Australia’s temperate lowland grasslands;
over 83% of Tasmania’s lowland grasslands and grassy woodlands;
about 95% of brigalow scrub that originally grew in Queensland;
over 90% of Victoria’s grasslands.
The thylacine, now extinct, is one of the largest known carnivorous marsupials, evolving about 4 million years ago. The last known live animal was captured in 1933 in Tasmania.
We concluded that exactly 100 plant and animal species are validly listed as having become extinct in the 230 years since Europeans colonized Australia. You can read more about this here.
Clearly, human activities have the most significant impact on biodiversity loss. At present, our planet continues to face these threats to biodiversity.
IN THE FUTURE, YOUR CHILDREN OR THE YOUNGER GENERATION MIGHT ASK YOU A QUESTION ALONG THE LINES OF, “WHEN THE CRISIS ON BIODIVERSITY BECAME SO RAMPANT DURING THE EARLY 2000S, WHAT DID YOU DO ABOUT IT?” WHAT WILL YOUR ANSWER BE?
Things you can do to help biodiversity and the environment:
Sydney, Australia – March 15, 2019 Climate Emergency rally
Reduce, reuse, and recycle. Cut down on what you throw away. Follow the three “R’s” to conserve natural resources and landfill space. Reduce your use of water, electricity, and other nonrenewable and recycle everything as much as possible.
Volunteer and Educate. Volunteer for cleanups or tree planting in your community. Teach others, especially children to help them understand the importance and value of our natural resources.
Conserve Water& Energy. The less water you use, the less runoff and wastewater that eventually end up in the ocean. You can also save grey water from your sink to water your garden. Energy-efficient light bulbs reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Also, flip the light switch off when you leave the room! Does your WiFi or your phone need to be always on?
Shop wisely & Choose sustainably. Buy Local, buy organic. Learn how to make smart food and seafood choices. Buy less plastic and bring a reusable shopping bag.
Drive less. Bike or walk more, and use your car sparingly. Do some carpooling with your mates and use public transport.
Plant as many trees as you can. Go for Native trees and flowers that support the local wildlife the best. Trees provide food and oxygen. They help save energy, clean the air, and help combat climate change. They help the biodiversity and ecosystems to survive and thrive. If you have land, seek your local council or nurseries to see if there are any free or cheap plants. If you have limited space, consider pots. And if you do not have space, volunteer some time or money to tree planting organizations.
QUIT the use of pesticides and petroleum-based fertilizers in your gardens. These often have knock-on effects in wildlife populations and run off into water courses with adverse effects for the plants and animals living there. Ask your Local Authority to do the same.
VOTE! Find out about legislation affecting biodiversity, make contact with your local political representatives, tell them how you feel, and ask them what they will do to help.
Support people and groups who are acting on long-term ecological sustainability. Find out about activist groups and share their message and donate to their cause. This is vital for our future!
We hope that this article gave you some inspiration or incentive to make changes to your lifestyle. Thank you for your time and remember that: Protecting our planet starts with you!
