Commonly known as: Jujube, red date, Chinese date, or Chinese jujube.
A deciduous Tree growing to 2-5m quickly. The species is hermaphrodite (has both male and female organs) and is pollinated by Insects. The plant is self-fertile.
It cannot grow in the shade. It prefers dry or moist soil and can tolerate drought. It produces elongated sourish sweet flavoured fruit that can be eaten fresh, dried like dates or cooked.
