ImageAustralian grass trees with tall spikes stand regally in front of a house, their silhouettes contrasting beautifully against the cloudy sky, much like a Cedrela 'Chinese Pink Cedar' 8" pot (freshly potted) adding its own unique flair to the scene. In a garden setting, a dense growth of fuzzy, gray-green lamb's ear leaves pairs beautifully with the vibrant Hebe 'Orphan Annie' 8" Pot.

Description

Xanthorrhoea johnsonii 'Johnson's Grass Tree'

This iconic Australian plant occurs naturally from Queensland to north east NSW. Slow growing to around 5 metres tall, it has a tuft of long thin leaves, and in old specimens this grows atop a thick trunk. They love a well drained soil in full sun to lightly dappled shade. In heavier soil it is advisable to build up raised beds for better drainage. They flower from autumn to summer with dramatic tall spears of small white flowers which are nectar rich. 12" pot size.

Stachys byzantina (syn. lanata)

Irresistibly soft, furry silver foliage, the 'Lambs Ear' is a must have in every Cottage garden. • Tall purple flowers • Looks great in pots, rockeries, along pathways and mass planted • Tolerates dry soils  6"/14cm pot size.
