| Description | Strelitzia reginaeExotic blue and orange flowers in the shape of a bird give this plant its name, Bird of Paradise. • Tropical looking broad round leaves • Looks great in pots, along fence lines and in poolside gardens • Tolerates drought, light frost and poor soils | Boronia megastigmaBrown Boronia is a small shrub that reaches heights of around a meter, and while it can be short lived, it is worth growing for the beautifully perfumed flowers in Spring. The best garden growing conditions are in dappled shade, in moist but well drained soils, and it loves a cool root run, which can be ensured with a good layer of mulch. 6" pot size. | Paeonia hybrid 'Yellow Crown' Peony Rose ITOH Peony Yellow Crown is a glorious semi-double yellow with a hint of red at the base of the petals. A real favourite, Yellow Crown is fragrant and floriferous. Intersectional Peonies are an exciting new hybrid between Tree Peonies and Herbaceous Peonies. These beautiful plants combine the best of both worlds with an extended flowering season, a free flowering habit, many upright facing flowers, vigorous growth habit, and a long vase life when picked. ITOH’s die down like the Herbaceous Peony and they require a cold wintering period to fully aid and promote new growth in Spring. Lots of lime improves the health and flowering ability of the all Peonies so be generous with feeding. Requires a part sun/shaded position. 8'' pot | Calathea insignus (Goeppertia insignis)Rattlesnake Calathea is extremely popluar specimen for it's striking resemblance of Snake skin with soft wavy edges, in variegated shades of lime and deep green, and deep purple lining at the bottom of the leaves. Requires filtered light or shade and a warm, humid position for best growing results. | ||||||||||||||||
| Content | [one_half] [/one_half] [one_half_last padding ="0 0 0 20px"] Bird of Paradise are native to South Africa, and are very hardy and can be grown in full sun to part shade. They get their name from their exotic blue/orange flowers that resemble the head of a colourful tropical bird. Bird of Paradise have large, lush foliage and look great when used in rockeries and interplanted with yuccas and agaves. Great for creating a tropical feel in the garden. We refer to these as "Flowering Bird of Paradise" or Strelitzia Bird of Paradise (a bit of a mouthful that comes from their botanical name) because there is another variety of Bird of Paradise called Giant Bird of Paradise. These have much bigger leaves, are taller growing, and are often planted together with Flowering Bird of Paradise to create a multi-layered, tropic garden effect even as far south as Melbourne.
