Description

Strelitzia reginae

Exotic blue and orange flowers in the shape of a bird give this plant its name, Bird of Paradise.

• Tropical looking broad round leaves • Looks great in pots, along fence lines and in poolside gardens • Tolerates drought, light frost and poor soils

Lagerstroemia indica x L. fauriei 'Biloxi'

Biloxi Crepe Myrtles are tough, small trees that offer attractive bark, masses of pale pink flowers in summer and good yellow-orange autumn colours. One of the most popular hardy small trees around. Crepe Myrtles are adaptable to most conditions, suitable for small gardens or amenity areas and can be a very effective street tree.

Pinkie Rose

Pinkie is a rose that produces clusters of bright-pink flowers in large amounts on this climber of manageable vigour all season. The bright foliage is bright shiny green and it is sweetly fragrant. Available online ONLY - Not in store. 8" pot size.

Acacia cognata 'Winter Flame'

Winter Flame is a dwarf native that grows to approximately 80cm in height and 1m in width. It bears vibrant green foliage, and produces eye catching orange tips. This native is extremely hardy and has very low water requirements once established. Winter Flame is best placed in a position of full sun to partial shade. It is frost and dry tolerant and thrives in well drained soils. This compact plant is a valuable addition to any garden. 13"/33cm pot size.

Angophora costata

The Smooth Barked Apple is an attractive Australian native tree, best loved for its peeling salmon pink to pale grey bark. Foliage is curved and waxy with older green leaves contrasting with red new growth on twisted upper branches. Small white flowers are borne in mass in Spring, leading to small gum nuts that are not problematic for lawnmowers. The Rose Gum/Smooth Barked Apple is a stately shade tree, commonly planted in parks, avenues and used in mass plantings.  Very useful for sandy, dry areas.

Pyrus communis

The most popular pear for most of the world since the 1700s, William Bon (aka. Bartlett) is a bell-shaped pear that begins green and turns yellow upon ripening. As good for eating fresh as they are for bottling, this pear is a great all-rounder. For pollinating, use the 'Beurre Bosc' pear tree. 13"/33cm pot size.

Bird of Paradise are native to South Africa, and are very hardy and can be grown in full sun to part shade. They get their name from their exotic blue/orange flowers that resemble the head of a colourful tropical bird.

Bird of Paradise have large, lush foliage and look great when used in rockeries and interplanted with yuccas and agaves. Great for creating a tropical feel in the garden.

We refer to these as "Flowering Bird of Paradise" or Strelitzia Bird of Paradise (a bit of a mouthful that comes from their botanical name) because there is another variety of Bird of Paradise called Giant Bird of Paradise. These have much bigger leaves, are taller growing, and are often planted together with Flowering Bird of Paradise to create a multi-layered, tropic garden effect even as far south as Melbourne.

Roses are easily one of the most popular and widely cultivated groups of flowering plants. Numerous different cultivars have been produced over the last two centuries although roses have been grown for millennia before their popularity bloomed. Renown for their flowers and beauty they are also loved for other reasons such as their fruit, the rose hip which can be made into an old fashioned jam or for garden uses such as ground covers and hedging. Roses range in size and variety from your standard and bush roses right up there with your climbers and weeping varieties, amongst all their beautiful colour, variety and hardy nature there is bound to be the perfect rose out there for your garden.
