ContentGolden Biota Conifer is a dense dwarf shrub that has a dense form, with smooth edges. It is ideal for pots, walkways, hedging or borders. A very hardy plant, the Golden Biota conifer does well in well drained soils. In summer the conifer turns to a marvelous shade of bright gold and turns green in the winter. Being highly resilient to adverse weather conditions like frost, the Golden Biota conifer grows easily in various weather and soil conditions. All you need a semi-clay to well drained soil, adequate water in the warmer months and a yearly dose of all purpose fertiliser to grow a lush, healthy specimen.Need a plant perfect for hedging? Castlewellan Gold Conifer is an evergreen conifer plant that produces stunning golden-yellow foliage. Ideal for improving privacy, it thrives well in almost every condition including wind and dry spells. The Conifer Castlewellan Gold is a highly popular, fast-growing hedging plant that gets its name from its golden foliage, achieved by planting in full sun. It can grow up to 10 meters tall in 5 years on a rural property. However for the urban block they are easily maintained at a height of 3m, perfect for hedging, avenues, and windbreaks. Recommended planting is 1.5m apart for dense hedging. It is very tough and hardy and will cope with extended dry periods and extreme cold once established. The Castlewellan Gold Conifer plant requires continuous care as it tends to grow very quickly. However, its growth can be easily regulated with regular trimming plus, along with Leighton Green conifers they are one of the most neat and dense hedges around.

Growing English Box

English Box grows in full sun through to the very deepest shade. In fact English Box will grow with no direct sunlight. English Box is the best of the low borders when you have a border that is partly in full sun and partly in deep shade. For perfect English Box borders and hedges, we recommend a spacing of 5 plants per metre. The secret to making perfect English Box borders and hedges is to space your English Box closely. Often people plant their English Box too far apart and they take forever to fill in. English Box tend to shoot upward instead of outward when they are younger. If English Box is spaced too far apart there will be upside down ‘U’ shaped gaps at the bottom of the hedge. One old English gardening book said to plant English Box 1 inch apart. At Chris & Marie’s Plant Farms we have found over the years that planting English Box at the rate of 5 per metre will create a dense bushy border in just a few years without making it unnecessarily expensive to establish a border.
