Description

Hydrangea quercifolia

Oak Leaf Hydrangeas are Chris' favourite of all hydrangeas and here's why: • better suited to the Aussie climate and the heat of our summers • interesting, oak leaf shaped foliage • beautiful white flowers AND great autumn colour

Pittosporum tenuifolium

Perfect Pillar is a bushy, dense, fast growing Pittosporum with a neat rounded habit and glossy pale-green foliage. Although brown, the flowers are quite insignificant but offer a honey smell during Spring. Perfect for screening and hedging. Grows to 3-4m in height and 3m wide.

Cotinus coggygria, Smoketree

Purple Smoke Bush is a gem in the garden thanks to it's unique blend of colours that change throughout the seasons. A large deciduous shrub or small tree, its beautiful eye-catching Spring foliage is green overlaid with purple. Summer brings deep purple foliage that then turns deep orange and bronze in a burst of glory for an Autumn show. Purple Smokebush gets its name from the clouds of smoke-like purple and pink "flowers" it produces in early Summer. These are very beautiful themselves, and are prized along with the foliage by florists. Grows best in full sun to partial shade and it is tolerant of drought and most soils, making it a great addition to many gardens.
Hebe  Hebe Emerald Green is a small, evergreen shrub. This beautiful plant is self shaping and forms a small bright green bun-shape with it's teeny tiny leaves.  Emerald Green Hebe makes an excellent border shrub which also looks good in pots. They prefer full sun with good watering during the warmer months. Grows approximately between 40-60cm tall and wide

Why buy Oak Leaf Hydrangeas?

[one_half] [/one_half] [one_half_last] The Oak Leaf Hydrangea is a white flowering large leaf shrub which is better suited to the Aussie climate, as it tolerates the heat and dryness of our summers better than other Hydrangeas. It is named for its interesting, oak leaf shaped foliage, which also have great autumn colour. While most other Hydrangea varieties lose their leaves quickly in winter, the Oak Leaf Hydrangea is almost evergreen, and puts on a lovely show of bronze autumn colour that can last for months. The video here was shot in early July, showing a batch of 8" Potted Oakleaf Hydrangeas still retaining their foliage even well into winter. Oakleaf Hydrangeas tolerate more sun than other Hydrangeas, but still do better with a bit of afternoon shade. They do not tolerate "wet feet" and will not survive badly drained, boggy soil. They can reach a height and spread of 4 to 6 feet (120 to 180 cm) in Melbourne, Victoria. Oakleaf Hydrangeas (Hydrangea quercifolia) are best pruned immediately after flowering. This allows you to enjoy the beautiful blooms during the growing season, and pruning later in the season or in winter may remove the flower buds for the following year. You can selectively prune them to shape the plant or control its size, but keep in mind that Oakleaf Hydrangeas bloom on old wood, so avoid heavy pruning that removes a significant portion of the branches, as this can reduce flowering.
