Description

Betula pendula

An elegant deciduous tree with soft, white bark.

• Small green leaves that turn vibrant yellow in autumn • Beautiful feature tree, planted in groups or used along driveways, fence lines or avenues • Low maintenance, tolerating frost, snow and drought once established.

Choisya ternata

Mexican Orange Blossom is so named as it's flowers are of a similar nature and scent to an orange tree! The foliage is a mid to light green and is covered with masses of scented white flowers through Spring and Summer. This attractive shrub will grow to approx. 1.5 - 2m, but is happy to be clipped to suit. As a result it can be also used as a hedge or screen. It is best grown in full sun or part shade and is reasonably frost tolerant.

Lonicera nitida

Fast growing, fine leaf box hedging and topiary plant with a defined edge. • Get your box hedge or topiary twice as fast! • Responds very well to pruning, becoming beautifully dense • Tolerates very poor soils and hot conditions

Parthenocissus tricuspidata

Boston Ivy is an incredibly vigorous deciduous climber that evenly covers any surface it is grown over, making it a very popular option for hiding unsightly spots.
  • Large glossy, green three-pronged leaves
  • Foliage turns bright crimson in the autumn, standing out dramatically in the landscape
  • Tolerates average soils, growing best in well drained loamy soil

Hylotelephium spectabile 'Autumn Joy'

Stunning succulent cottage plant with large, pink flower heads • Flowers throughout summer and autumn • Fleshy green leaves that bronze, dying down in cold climates & returning in the spring • Prefers full sun and will tolerate a range of soil types, excluding soggy soils

Buxus sempervirens suffruticosa

A glossy green, rounded leaf box hedging plant • Used for low to medium hedging and topiary • Planted in the garden, along borders, pathways and in pots • Tolerates shady positions

Gardenia augusta

Florida is one of the best gardenias available, producing masses of perfumed flowers on a hardy plant.

  • Beautifully scented
  • Prolific flowering
  • Great for low landscaping

Buxus microphylla

Korean Box is a fantastic compact shrub with long but finer leaves than most buxus. It's foliage is a bright green long oval shape with gloss. It is one of the lowest growing buxus and so is ideal for box hedging, however it can tend to turn yellow in full sun, so it will prefer a part shade/filtered light position. Korean box is one of the slower growing varieties and is great in pots or as topiary's. This plant has a moderate growth rate that grows to approximately 50-60cm in height. Plant every 20cm - 5 per meter for an optimum hedge.

Vitis Vinifera, Ornamental Grape Vine

Crimson Glory Vine is an absolutely beautiful large leaved deciduous climber with heart stopping Autumn colour. This is actually an ornamental (non-fruiting) variety of grape vine that has some fabulous features: it is very hardy, fast growing, long lived and tolerates a range of soils. Crimson Glory Vines are happy in full sun to part shade.
ContentSilver birches are a small growing tree with an inoffensive root system that’s beautiful all year round. They will make your property looks a million dollars because although Silver Birch are inexpensive, nothing else looks as classic in the garden. In winter Silver Birch Trees have a lovely naked tree with a fabulous white trunk! To enhance that feature, you can plant them in clumps of 2 or 3 silver birch trees and together the white trunks look more beautiful. In spring and summer you have beautiful fine lacy green foliage, giving fabulous dappled shade. These trees are beautiful where you want some shade but you don’t want total shade or darkness. The silver birch looks great with an old fashioned house and silver birches look absolutely fabulous with modern buildings as well. Either in a modern setting or an old fashioned setting, classic garden or a modern garden, silver birches look amazing! Over the years they’ve probably become the most popular tree in Melbourne, measured over time, and look great just about anywhere. Check out our fact sheet page for more information on silver birch trees.BoxOz Lonicera has been specially developed by Chris, and is our exclusive hedging plant. It has a deeper green foliage, a denser finish and more clearly defined shape than the traditional English Box. BoxOz Lonicera is the best plant with which to create your perfect hedge or border as it grows quickly and once your hedge has developed its easy to maintain with only a few trimmings a year. New shoots are soft and easy to cut and trimming is an effortless relaxing experience. Some traditional hedging plants grow only an inch or two a year. BoxOz Lonicera will produce a calf high border in under twelve months, a knee high hedge in around 18 months, and a waist high hedge in 30 months. Almost any soil is suitable, as long as it is not too swampy. Fertilise your BoxOz Lonicera occasionally with a complete fertiliser, and water as required.

Why buy Boston Ivy?

Boston Ivy is one of our most popular climbers, and rightfully so. It suits Melbourne's weather perfectly. It is a self-adhering climber which grows by clinging to the wall or surface, but without damaging stonework or invading cracks. It can be used to cover unsightly fences, or add a lush layer of green over masonry. Boston Ivy is deciduous and provides a phenomenal autumn display of oranges and red hues. It not only makes a fantastic addition to any garden, but is also a very cost effective way to add colour and beauty to bland areas.

What else do I need to know about buying Boston Ivy plants?

Boston Ivy is a very hardy and versatile climber and it can grow almost anywhere and under any conditions. However it loves a hot sunny spot with loose fertile soil and plenty of water, and in these ideal conditions it will grow to cover anything in no time. Boston Ivy can also grow in shade, in pots, in poor soils and confined garden beds. However, if conditions are less than perfect, expect it to grow more slowly. The trick is to plant it more densely to achieve ideal coverage if this is the case. Plant one plant every metre in ideal conditions, or more plants closer together if conditions are less than ideal. Check out our Boston Ivy fact sheet page for more information.
If your looking for a small hedging plant then this is the one for you. Dutch Box is a dwarf box that grows with dense, glossy green foliage and works well in shaded areas. Dutch Box also likes part shade in moist, well-drained soil, but will tolerate a wide range of soils and conditions. It should be clipped to maintain a formal shape. Slight yellow discolouration of the leaves on Dutch box may occur during cooler months, but don't worry, this is normal! This is remedied by applying with Dolomite Lime, and a slow release fertilizer a month later. Or you can just leave your Dutch Box alone and it will come back lovely and green and spring. They are seen to perfection in frost-free areas north of Sydney and Perth, but will grow in cooler areas like Melbourne in a warmer, protected position.
