Halls Giant is a robust and established hazelnut variety known for its large, flavorful nuts, perfect for eating fresh or for roasting and cooking. To ensure successful pollination, consider planting varieties like Barcelona, Cosford, or Wanliss Pride alongside it. Though this tree has both male and female flowers, they don’t always bloom simultaneously, so mixing varieties is beneficial.
Choose a sunny spot with well-drained, well-prepared soil for the best growth. Make sure to plant the bud union above the soil line. Water thoroughly and keep the soil moist until the tree is well-established. When planting, fertilise and then again once you see new growth. They grow anywhere between 4m - 10m and 1m - 5m wide, depending on their environment. During autumn and winter their yellow flowers form into large cones, rich with nectar. These stunning flowers attract lots of bird life, particularly cockatoos and honey-eaters. Coastal Banksia is a slow grower and can handle a wide range of soil types.
