Hedges are shrubs and trees planted at intervals in order to form a complete blockout, whereas screens usually have a little bit of transparency amongst the foliage. A screen is often made up of trees or individual plants that allow dappled light to break through. They will prevent large gusts of winds but don’t completely block it out and are often less manicured than a hedge.

Hedges are more solid, from top to bottom or with a pleached trunk. They come in all sizes from small, box hedging to mammoth hedges on an acreage.
